Arabic Lyrics

VERSE 1:

CHORUS:

Verse 2

CHORUS:

Verse 3:

CHORUS:

English Lyrics (translated)

VERSE 1:
Did we have a revolution so that you could be the president of the country?

You saw how the people were being ripped apart and fleeing from the country.
My country is suffering and being tortured all the time, so much so that

our country is dying. She needs an injection with the antidote in it.
They felt how much we hate tyranny,
But we're sacrificing ourselves for a lie, for the same words you told us before.
The people are suffering. They're even going barefoot.
The father's eyes weep when he sees his children go to bed without food.
Our nation's tragedy is practically a melt-down.
The government is piling up its money.
They're not thinking about the unfortunate man who cries himself to sleep
because of the oppression. It's all the same picture - some of it even sparkles.
What's the difference between you and the RCD?
What's wrong with you? Have you lost your sense of hearing? Or is the revolution's voice no longer being heard?
You lied to us, so we decided to make a revolution out of whatever we could find.
We chased after freedom. It was something that drove us crazy.

CHORUS:
President of the country, we're still sacrificing ourselves to oppression and tyranny.
Go out and see what's still happening in the country!
Your people are dying. There's no bread and we're in chains.
They beat us with shoes and our hearts are broken.
We're still living through the same suffering.
We made a revolution thinking that Tunisia would flourish.
People died back then so that the people may live today.
We see a dictatorship that's alive and well.

VERSE 2:
You wouldn't write your name in the black book
Because Tunisia is a piece of bread they cut up in order to keep you divided.
Tunisia is lost right now. They cut her to pieces with the sword.
The two hands - dirty and clean - were too much for her.
Tunisia is a small structure that they made so many speeches about.
Everyone among you is slamming the door in her face.
We expelled the Trabulsis and brought in new Trabulsis.
They're in the presidential palace and we're under the wall in the cold.
Our children died at sea. They left here rashly in the hope of finding roses.
We put our trust in you and you murdered our revolution with your gun!
In my country, I see workers still going without their rights.
Is this the government of the revolution or the government of Ben Ali?
No one among our youth want to congratulate our country.
They love a country that's shot through with corruption while they're just looking for work.
That's why you see them being sponsored by the Nakhla [palm tree?] political party.
They're fighting over Tunisia, over who gets to deflower the bride on her wedding night.

CHORUS:
President of the country, we're still sacrificing ourselves to oppression and tyranny.
Go out and see what's still happening in the country!
Your people are dying. We have no bread and we're in chains.
They beat us with shoes and our hearts are broken.
We're still living through the same suffering.
We made a revolution thinking that Tunisia would flourish.
People died back then so that the people may live today.
We see a dictatorship that's alive and well.

VERSE 3:
The Tunisian hated his country and politics as well.
The government overlooked him and devoured his rights and threw him out on the street.
After the revolution, they'll just change places. He knows it's all just a fig-leaf.
He saw how they all lied and simply changed their clothes.
We wanted our country to be like we wanted it to be,
With a president who serves his country and never betrays his people.
The Jasmine revolution was lost. It was sold out for the cheapest price.
They killed the revolution after they sentenced it to death.
Go back into history to find when Tunisia was first corrupted.
The story begins with the assassination of Farhat Hached.
From there, the sons of bitches sold off our country's riches.
With the world's connivance and with its loans, they swallowed up more of the country.

My country is crying out. Will anyone among you answer her?
The game is as sharp as knives. Each one is a pocket-sized Satan.
Today, the people want to finish the revolution once and for all
before Tunisia collapses and the revolution goes up in smoke.

  1. Sean, I've been looking all over the internet for the Phonetic transliteration of those Arabic lyrics, and cannot find them. Is there any chance that you have them, or could find them? I found partial transliterations of the chorus, and used an online phonetic tool to KIND of work the rest. Sadly the nature of Semitic written language means that doesn't work very well, ignoring accents and most vowels.

    I'd appreciate any help.
